Prior to beginning a career in nuclear technology, Hussein Ata attended the University of Illinois, Chicago. He earned a bachelor of science in electronics and electromagnetics engineering and has gone on to hold a number of leadership positions in his industry. Hussein Ata’s credentials include a license from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission to operate and supervise reactors at an Illinois nuclear facility.

Also recognized as a leader within the Muslim-American community, Hussein Ata has held executive positions at several nonprofit charity organizations. As a board member of Islamic Relief USA, Mr. Ata plays a key role in directing relief and development to communities in need in the U.S. and abroad. Along with the other members of the board, he carries on the nonprofit’s more than 30-year commitment to providing humanitarian services to people around the world.

In his role as the board treasurer of another national Islamic nonprofit, Mr. Ata works to further the personal development, education, and community engagement of Muslim-Americans across the country. He also carries out responsibilities as chairman of North America’s largest and most diverse Islamic convention. Taking place annually in Chicago over several days, the convention provides an opportunity for Muslim-American families to pray, learn, and socialize in an Islamic environment. Mr. Ata has been involved with the convention in some form for two decades, over which time it has grown in attendance from 1,500 in 2001 to upwards of 40,000 in 2023.

Closer to home, Hussein Ata dedicates himself to service at a local mosque in his Bridgeview, Illinois, community. As the mosque’s current vice president, as well its former president and chairman, he pursues with his fellow board members a larger vision of making the house of worship into the leading community-focused mosque in the United States.
